Three people have been sentenced to imprisonment for causing grievous harm to a minor at Ikuruma village last year.

They were accused of gouging out Baby Sagini’s eyes last year.

Before the Senior Resident Magistrate Christine Ogweno at the Kisii law courts was the victim’s cousin Alex Ochogo, Pacificah Nyakerario (aunt), and Rael Mayaka(grandmother).

The court found them guilty of the criminal act and therefore imprisoned them for 40,10 and 5 years respectively.

The court found it logical to imprison Nyakerario and Mayaka who are 80 and 51 years as a lesson to other offenders who might contemplate similar heinous activities.

Ochogo the perpetrator of the heinous act was 40 years behind bars to get a lesson about how precious human life is.

“The court has considered all circumstances surrounding the assault of the minor and this is a fact that should not be wished away, the minor lost his eyes and eyesight, therefore, the perpetrators should serve the penalty.” She said.

Sagini was attacked last year at Ikuruma Village in Marani Subcounty of Kisii.

The court established that the Minor who is 3 years old lost his eyes and eyesight in the cruel hands of the suspect for superstitious beliefs.

He was assisted by Pacificah Nyakerario and Rael Mayaka who hid the victim in the sack thinking that he had died.

With the help of the community members, the suspects were arrested and given into police custody.

Their case has taken one year to reach the court verdict.
