More than 250 trainees have graduated from Ndanai Vocational Training Centre in Bomet County, marking a major boost to efforts to equip young people with technical skills for employment and entrepreneurship.

The graduands received their certificates during a ceremony presided over by County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Education, Vocational Training, Youth and Sports Patrick Maritim.

Maritim challenged the graduates to translate the knowledge and practical skills acquired into meaningful economic opportunities, urging them to embrace entrepreneurship instead of relying solely on formal employment.

He said vocational training remained critical in addressing unemployment and promoting self-reliance among young people, noting that those equipped with relevant technical skills could create employment for themselves and others.
County pledges support for vocational training
The CECM reaffirmed the county government's commitment to strengthening Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions through investment in infrastructure, modern training equipment and partnerships with public and private sector organisations.

He said the interventions were aimed at improving the quality of training and ensuring graduates acquire skills that respond to labour market demands.

Chief Officer for Education and Vocational Training Dr John Keter congratulated the graduands and urged them to maintain discipline, integrity and professionalism as they transition into the job market.

Keter said the graduates had an important role to play in applying their expertise to improve livelihoods and contribute to the county's economic development.

The ceremony was also attended by Ndanai Division Assistant County Commissioner Richard Owadhe, his Abosi Division counterpart Norbert Bii, Director of Vocational Training Alphonce and officials from Bandari Maritime Academy in Mombasa, led by Fatma Mzee.

The graduation underscores the growing role of vocational training institutions in providing young people with practical skills to support self-employment, innovation and economic development.
