The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested a teacher at Friends School Kamusinga Boys High School in Bungoma County over allegations of soliciting bribes from unemployed teachers in exchange for promises of employment by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
The suspect, identified as Lilian Buluma, was arrested on October 12, 2026, following preliminary investigations into complaints that she had demanded Ksh100,000 from each of three unemployed teachers, amounting to Ksh300,000. According to the EACC, preliminary investigations indicate that Buluma had received Ksh150,000 through M-Pesa as part of the alleged payments.
The commission said the suspect had allegedly claimed to have connections within the TSC and other government offices that could enable her to facilitate the recruitment of the unemployed teachers.(Education News Kenya — https://educationnews.co.ke/news/eacc-arrests-teacher-for-allegedly-soliciting-ksh300-000-from-job-seekers-for-tsc-jobs)
Following her arrest, Buluma was processed at the EACC Western Regional Office before being booked at Bungoma Police Station, where she remains pending the conclusion of investigations. The suspect could face charges of requesting and receiving a bribe, contrary to Section 6 as read with Section 18 of the Anti-Bribery Act, 2016.
The EACC reiterated its commitment to combating corruption and promoting integrity in public service, warning against fraudulent schemes that exploit job seekers seeking employment opportunities in government institutions.
