- Students, parents and residents celebrated as Nyakeore Senior School received a new 52-seater bus.
- The vehicle was fully funded by West Mugirango NG-CDF to support academic and co-curricular activities.

There was song, dance and ululation at Nyakeore Senior School in West Mugirango, Nyamira County, on Monday as the school received a brand-new 52-seater bus fully funded by the West Mugirango National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF).
The mood was electric. Students in crisp uniforms lined up, singing and waving twigs. Parents, some of whom had walked for kilometres, danced in circles. Boda boda riders hooted in celebration. The day the school had prayed for had finally come.
The brand-new white bus, decorated in the school colours and inscribed “NYAKEORE SECONDARY SCHOOL – DISCIPLINE AND EXCELLENCE”, was driven into the compound at exactly 11am, sending the crowd into a frenzy.
The ceremony was presided over by area MP Steve Mogaka.
Addressing a large crowd of parents, students, teachers and local leaders, Mogaka said the bus was not just a vehicle but a tool for academic transformation.
He said Nyakeore is among the well-performing schools in Nyamira County and has made the constituency proud through its KCSE performance.
He noted that the NG-CDF committee prioritised Nyakeore because of its discipline, consistent performance and growing student population, which requires transport for academic trips, games and contests.
Bus to ease transport burden
Mogaka said the days of hiring matatus at high costs were now over and students would be able to travel more conveniently.
He challenged the learners to work harder to justify the investment.
He also warned them against drugs and substance abuse, which he said were destroying the futures of many young people in Gusii and across the country.
He urged them to avoid bhang, alcohol and other harmful substances and instead focus on their studies and making their parents proud.
Parents who spoke during the ceremony could not hide their joy.
One parent, Mama Kerubo, who has a son in Form Three, said parents had struggled for years to raise money whenever learners needed transport for activities such as music festivals.
She said the new bus would ease that burden.
The school principal, Mr Oirere, thanked the MP and the NG-CDF office, saying the bus would ease transport, boost morale and expose learners to more academic and co-curricular opportunities.
Mogaka also used the platform to call on residents to avoid divisive politics, saying it undermines education development.
He said when communities divide themselves along clan and village lines, children suffer and development is slowed.
He urged young people to discard tribal thinking and adopt a broader national and global outlook in order to compete effectively in a rapidly changing world.
He told them to remain hardworking and disciplined while preparing themselves to compete beyond West Mugirango.

The ceremony ended with a prayer and a maiden ride around Nyakeore Market as residents lined the road to catch a glimpse of the new bus.
For Nyakeore Senior School, a new journey has just begun.
