A university don has cited lack of proper funding from the government as a major impediment to research innovations.

Great Lakes University, Vice Chancellor Professor Hazael Mumbo said that the national government has not been keen to address the issue with the urgency it deserves.

Speaking at Mama Grace Onyango social center in Kisumu, Prof. Mumbo said that now the institutions will be forced to solicit funding elsewhere.

“We’ve started writing proposals in a bid to secure the elusive funding,” she said.

The don spoke ahead of a scheduled conference on digital platforms in health management.

“The event will attract guests from across the world from 17th to 18th October,” she said.

Prof. Mumbo stated that local innovators will showcase some of their works for the rest of the world to see during the event.

“Research and innovation is the way to go for a developing nation like Kenya,” she said.

The Professor noted that officials from the World Bank, the World Health Organization, the Lake Region Economic Bloc and UNICEF will also be in attendance.

“Health workers will be inducted on how to use digital technology in the diagnosis and management of health systems,” said Prof. Mumbo.
