The six-day search for Simon Isiaho Shange, the Principal of Munyuki Secondary School in Lugari, has ended in tragedy after his body was discovered dumped in the Kipkaren River early Saturday morning.
According to police sources, local residents stumbled upon the body and immediately alerted authorities. The grim discovery was later confirmed by Benson Muyanda, a colleague of the deceased principal, who described the incident as a devastating loss to the education fraternity.
“We are deeply shocked. Shange was a dedicated leader and a mentor to both teachers and students,” said Muyanda.
Police have since launched a full-scale investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding Shange’s death. Officers from the Lugari Sub-County Police Headquarters cordoned off the scene as detectives collected evidence and interviewed witnesses.

Preliminary reports indicate that Shange had been reported missing nearly a week ago, sparking widespread concern across the Lugari community. His disappearance prompted a joint search effort involving family, colleagues, and local residents.
The late principal was widely respected for his commitment to academic excellence and community service. His untimely death has left staff, students, and residents reeling in shock and grief.
Counseling sessions are expected to be arranged at Munyuki Secondary School to help students and teachers cope with the loss.
As investigations continue, authorities are calling for calm, assuring the public that all leads will be pursued to bring those responsible if any to justice.
