The Member of County Assembly (MCA) of Kalama, Machakos County Boniface Maeke has proposed the reversion of Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) back to the national government.
Addressing the issue on Tuesday, Maeke argued that transferring ECDE to the national government would alleviate the financial burden on county governments, enabling more efficient project management.
He pointed out that the national government possesses greater resources to support ECDE effectively in comparison to county governments, which receive limited funding.
Maeke also highlighted the urgency of intervening in numerous ECDE projects within his ward due to the financial constraints faced by County Governments.
“The governor has a budget of 4 billion shillings for development, but building a classroom costs Ksh. 1 Million. In my ward, several ECDE projects require immediate attention, but the governor’s resources are stretched thin,” he stated.
The MCA further stressed the vital role ECDE plays as the foundation of every child’s education, emphasizing the need for a more serious approach.
