The Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) Kisumu Executive Secretary Zablon Awange on Wednesday night narrowly escaped death after unknown assailants attacked him on the outskirts of the town while on his way home.
Awange was robbed of his valuables but confirmed that he was left unhurt.
“I am out of danger. I will talk about it later,” he said.
The County Police Commander Alphonse Kimathi confirmed the matter and added that investigations have been launched.
He promised to provide more details as the probe continues.
Kisumu residents, led by Residents’ Voice Association Chairperson Audi Ogada, called on the police to intensify patrols in the region to curb escalating crime.
Ogada said that incidents of muggings have been rife in several parts of Kisumu.
He singled out areas such as Migosi, Carwash, Obunga and Manyatta where thugs have reigned supreme.
