As the World is set to celebrate AIDS Prevention Day, Kisii County has raised an alarm about the continued spread of the scourge despite the government’s efforts to discourage it.
The County Director of Gender Youth Affairs and Children, Dennis Mogere, said the area recorded more than 600 youths with HIV AIDS in the region last year and expressed fear that it will lead to great havoc if it goes uncontrolled.
He said the majority of the victims were youths between 10 and 24 years and attributed it to a carefree attitude towards practising safe sex amongst themselves.
This foolish practice keeps repeating amongst these ignorant rots, who end up regretting how they blindly entered the trap.

Mogere appealed to parents to caution their children against sex before marriage, abstention from sex and adherence to advice from health experts.
He said that Kisii County has positioned its health workers at every subcounty hospital to provide services close to the affected and infected populace and asked them to visit the centres frequently for their own welfare.
He asked Churches and other social community workers to volunteer and offer unconditional services, showing compassion and giving them hope to face the future courageously, because the disease is not a death sentence.
The Day is usually celebrated by participants wearing red ribbons as they carry out sensitisation campaigns in communities.
However, Mogere asks the communities to see the campaign with new eyes, beyond atoning for themselves with ribbons, and to see the disease as a serious threat and to rise in solidarity to fight it.
