Young athletes shine in KATTI national athletics competitions

Several young athletes made impressive performances during the Kenya Association of Technical Training Institutions (KATTI) National Athletics Competitions held at the Nyayo National Stadium.

The event was attended by more than one thousand participants. The athletes were from: Western, Rift Valley, Mt. Kenya, Nairobi region and Coast regions.

Evans Kipruto   emerged the first followed by Kennedy Cheruiyot in the 10,000 metres men final. Both were from the North Rift region.

In the men’s 5,000 metres category, Brian Kiptoo from Western won the race followed by Evans Kipruto from North Rift with an official time of 13:59.9 and 14:09.2 respectively.

In the women’s 3,000 metres category, Emmaculate Kipkirui from South Rift emerged the winner followed by Vivina Njoroge from North Rift. Kipkirui also won the 5,000 metres Women final followed by Njoroge.

The winners will participate in the national championship trials.

Athletics Kenya President Retired General Jackson Tuwei, who was the chief guest, commended KATTI for investing in talents. He said the association is ready to assist it in nurturing talents.

He asked TVET institutions to give their learners a chance to identify their talents, which will be of great benefit in the future.
