Rift valley has emerged winner at this year’s Kenya Teachers Intercollegiate ball games championships at the 40th annual events held at Thogoto Teachers College in Kikuyu, Kiambu County.
The event which only held four disciplines of the ball games which included women soccer, volleyball men, Netball, handball and goal ball had Rift valley region ranked best with 26 points with Western coming second with 22 points followed by Nyanza with 18 points, Central with 16 points, Nairobi with 13 points, Eastern, 18 points and Coast region managing to get 6 points.
In men’s ranking, Rift valley emerged first with 13 points where Western and Central tied at 10 points as Nyanza got 8 points, Nairobi also tying with Eastern at 7 points and Coast had only 1 point. In women’s teams Rift valley was the first again with 13 points, Nyanza had 12 points, Nairobi, Eastern and Central shared 6 points each while coast had 5 points.
Rift valley region was the most disciplined team with 87% marks at the sports event.
In Goal ball women category Faith Odiambo of Asumbi TTC in Nyanza region was named as the most valuable player where Asumbi TTC was ranked the first followed by Machakos TTC in Nairobi region, Kagumo TTC in Central region was number three and Mosoriot TTC in Riftvalley region was number four.
In Goal ball men Titus Mukwana was the most valuable player from Kenya Institute of Special Education (KISE) from Nairobi region followed by Asumbi TTC in Nyanza region while Kagumo TTC in Central region emerged number three.
Overall ranking of goal ball saw Nyanza and Nairobi region gain 14 points each while Central region got 10 points and Riftvalley region gained 4 points.
Francis Haya of Ranchunyo TTC in Nyanza was the most valuable player in the volleyball men category with Kagumo TTC , Kericho TTC Riftvalley , Kibabii TTC, Egoji TTC, KISE and Shanzu TTC following.
Netball women Judith Akinyi of Eregi TTC was the most valuable player from western region despite the team coming second where Asumbi TTC in Nyanza region was the best team in the category. Kericho TTC, Shanzu TTC, Thogoto TTC, Meru TTC Kamwenja TTC followed in that order.
Stacy Owala of Kericho TTC in Riftvalley region emerged the most valuable player in soccer where Kericho TTC became number one followed by Kaimosi TTC, Kilimambogo TTC, Egoji TTC, thogoto TTC, St Pauls TTC and Shanzu TTC followed in that order.
Riftvalley region emerged tops in the men’s netball category with Josses Kariuki Kithure of Kericho TTC being named the most valuable player followed by Kibabii TTC, Thogoto TTC, Muranga TTC and Meru TTC followed in that order.
The Kenya Teachers Colleges Sports Association will in May this year host teachers training colleges in the seven regions with each having 60 participants for the annual athletics championship competitions in Muranga teachers college.
