College athletics crowned by Paralympics as contests transition to ball games

Paralympic races featured in the Kenya Colleges Sports Association Intercollegiate Sports Competitions in Machakos as the curtains came down on the athletics disciplines, paving way for ball games which will run up to June 12.

The visually impaired athletes competed in the T100, T400 and T800-metre races led by their guides in an exciting event at the Kenyatta Stadium on Wednesday.

Speaking at the sidelines of the competitions, KTCSA Secretary General Paul Maina said the event was very successful and that officials had been fair.

“It has been very successful and officials have been fair. In fact there are some athletes fit to run in the Athletics Kenya competitions because of their standards,” said Maina. “The most unique thing is that we had the Paralympic races for those who are visually impaired,” he added.

The competitions were crowned by a race by the staff dubbed ‘race for veterans’. Below are final results for all disciplines.

KTCSA ATHLETICS FINAL RESULTS

Rift valley region led in all the categories; men, women and overall, as Eastern region came second followed by western.  Nairobi, Nyanza, Central and Coast regions took positions 4,5,6 and 7 respectively.

The winners were awarded medals and certificates in a ceremony graced by Athletics Kenya and KUPPET officials, as well as Machakos County Sports Executive Committee Member John Kilonzo.
