Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has lauded reforms recommended by the Presidential Working Party on Education Reforms saying these will be a game changer in the education sector.

While Speaking on Sunday, August 13, 2023, during the 41st graduation ceremony at the University of Eastern Africa Baraton in Nandi County, Gachagua said the report has set on course a raft of reforms that will re-engineer the Education System to meet emerging socio-economic development demands of the country.

At the same time, the DP supported the proposed new funding for university students as he said it was important to refocus the financial support for those in dire need of assistance to benefit.

“We are changing the university education funding model to make it better. We want students who are in need of funding to get full assistance. We are refocusing the funding of education to make it better,” he said.

Consequently, Gachagua promised that the government will continue to set aside funds in a bid to boost the quality of learning institutions as in its first fiscal year (2023-2024), the education sector was allocated a whooping  Ksh 628 billion which is an increment of more than Ksh84 billion from the previous year.
