Tengecha Boys High School has issued a readmission notice for Form Four students following a fire that extensively damaged a dormitory at the institution on Sunday, October 4.

In a notice circulated to parents and guardians, the school management directed Form Four parents to accompany their sons to school on Thursday, October 15, between 8am and noon for the readmission exercise.

The notice requires parents to clear all outstanding school fees and a Sh4,000 damages fee before the students are readmitted. Learners have also been directed to report clean-shaven.

Parents who arrive after the stipulated time have been warned that they will be assigned a separate readmission date.

However, the management indicated in a subsequent message that parents may not need to accompany their children if all the stipulated conditions have been met.

Dormitory fire leaves extensive damage

The notice comes days after a fire broke out in one of the school's dormitories on Sunday evening, October 4, triggering an emergency response involving students, staff, residents and county firefighters.

According to the County Government of Bomet, firefighters responded to the incident and helped prevent the blaze from spreading. Authorities said no casualties were reported, while the cause remained under investigation.

The fire occurred at around 5pm, with the affected upper floor of the multi-storey dormitory sustaining extensive damage. Students, school staff and members of the surrounding community helped respond to the emergency and salvage learners’ belongings.

School initially closed indefinitely

Following the incident, the school was initially closed indefinitely as the Board of Management and education officials assessed the damage and considered arrangements for affected learners.

It is reported that 571 students were affected, although no injuries were recorded.

The cause of the fire had not been established in the reports available, with investigations expected to determine how the blaze started.

Form Four candidates prepare for return

The latest readmission notice signals a planned return for Form Four candidates, but it has yet to be independently confirmed whether the school has officially reopened following the earlier closure announcement.

Parents and guardians are expected to comply with the stated requirements as the school works to address the disruption caused by the fire.
