The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has issued strict administrative guidelines to safeguard the integrity of the 2026 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations.

KNEC Chief Executive Officer Dr David Njengere issued the directives ahead of the administration of papers involving large numbers of candidates, emphasising strict adherence to punctuality and security protocols across examination centres.

Under the instructions, examination containers must be opened at 7:00 a.m.

Additionally, all mobile phones within examination centres must be completely switched off and securely stored in lockable lockers outside examination rooms for the duration of examination sessions.

KNEC tightens access to examination centres

To curb unauthorised access, centre managers are required to maintain an approved and updated weekly list of all personnel authorised to be present at their examination centres.

Individuals accessing the centres must also produce their original national identification cards for verification.

The measures are intended to strengthen accountability and ensure that only authorised personnel participate in the administration of the national examinations.

Instead, centre managers have been directed to provide functional wall clocks in every examination room to enable candidates to monitor time without compromising examination security.

The directives underscore the council's emphasis on maintaining examination integrity, controlling access to examination materials and ensuring compliance with established procedures throughout the national exercise.
