Kenya is preparing to conclude its Ebola monitoring exercise this week, with 52 people still under quarantine expected to be released after completing the required observation period.
Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale said the country has not recorded any new confirmed infections since October 19.
The Ministry of Health said the outbreak resulted in nine confirmed cases and two deaths, with all infections traced to a single cluster linked to a patient who had travelled from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The 52 people are being monitored under contact-tracing measures introduced to identify possible infections and prevent further transmission. Their anticipated release will mark a milestone in the government's efforts to close the outbreak response. The government is expected to complete the remaining monitoring procedures before formally concluding the response.
Ebola is a highly infectious viral disease transmitted through direct contact with the blood and other bodily fluids of an infected person or contaminated materials. Its symptoms include fever, weakness, vomiting and diarrhoea, and severe cases can result in organ complications and death.
Health authorities have continued to emphasise vigilance, timely reporting of suspected cases and adherence to public health guidance. The outbreak has also underscored the importance of cross-border disease surveillance, given the reported travel history of the first patient from the DRC.
