A Narok man has been sentenced to life imprisonment after being convicted of defiling his 10-year-old daughter.
The sentence was handed down by Narok Chief Magistrate H. Nyaberi after the prosecution, led by Leone Wandera, presented evidence that the court found proved the offence beyond reasonable doubt.
The court heard that the man committed the offence on diverse dates between 2024 and February 2026 in Narok Central.
In convicting him, the court relied on the testimony of the minor, who identified the accused as her father and placed him at the scene. The evidence was supported by four prosecution witnesses, medical reports, a P3 form and treatment notes presented in court.
While delivering the sentence, Chief Magistrate Nyaberi said the accused, as a father, was required to protect his daughter but instead abused her.
"The court has considered the offence and the relationship between the accused and the complainant. This is a father and daughter relationship and as such, the accused was required to protect her, but instead he is the one who preyed on her," the magistrate ruled.
The court observed that the victim was below 11 years at the time of the offence, a factor that informed the sentence under Section 8(2) of the Sexual Offences Act.
The Director of Public Prosecutions said the conviction and sentence followed a prosecution that relied on the child's testimony and corroborating evidence from other witnesses.
