Education Cabinet Secretary, Mrs Amina Mohammed has directed county directors of education to make sure that no extra levies were being charged in schools under their areas of jurisdiction.
The Minister noted that some rogue head teachers and principals of schools were still charging extra levies against the ministry’s directive. She warned that any head teacher found culpable and the education officer who allows that to take place will be disciplined.
In a speech which was read on her behalf by the Chief Administrative Officer in the Ministry of Education, Mr Samson Kachepin during the official opening of Magura Secondary School in Nyamira County, Amina said the Ministry has sent enough funds to all institutions in the country and asked the school Boards of Management to use them wisely. Magura Secondary School was built by Zarina and Shausadi Merali Foundation at a cost of Sh50 million.
The Chairman of the Foundation, Dr James Mcfie said his foundation was ready to work with the Government in addressing education standards in the country.
