830 students receive Ksh3M bursaries in Kisii Central Ward

Eight hundred and thirty students have benefitted from Kisii Central Ward bursary kitty worth Ksh3 million, with orphans and needy students being prioritized.

Speaking during the issuance of bursary cheques on Thursday, the ward Member of County Assembly (MCA) Wilfred Monyenye Yoge disclosed that the bursary committee allocated Ksh5,000 for orphans and Ksh3,000 for students from needy backgrounds each.

The MCA told the beneficiaries’ parents to check with his Office, Chiefs and their Assistants to submit any corrections or clarifications regarding the money.

He lauded the Kisii County government for pledging to increase the Education Bursary Fund from the current Ksh3 million to Ksh5 million in the next financial year.

“Education is the best shield that can protect as from all socioeconomic imbalances in the world,” he said.

Elsewhere at Magenche Ward in Bomachoge Borabu Constituency, MCA Timothy Ogugu confirmed that all those who applied for the Education Bursary Fund will receive the monies.

“Those who applied but will not receive the funds are those whose parents are not voters voted in this ward,” he said.

Ogugu was addressing residents at his Marina office where he released cheques worth Ksh3 million to secondary school students from the ward.

The MCA appealed to the Police to strengthen security along the Kisii, Transmara and Migori sub-county boundaries to ensure peaceful coexistence and development in the areas.

He was reacting to a recent incident where a man was reportedly killed in Nakuru and his body transported and dumped in River Gucha which cuts across the three sub-counties.

Kisii County Police boss Charles Kesses confirmed the incident adding that two suspects had been arrested in connection with the murder and were helping the Police with investigations.
