Masige West Member of County Assembly (MCA) Jacob Bagaka has reiterated the Kisii County Government's commitment to supporting education through improved infrastructure and the provision of bursaries to needy students.

Bagaka, who is also the Kisii County Assembly Minority Leader, said the initiatives complement the national government's efforts to improve education standards across the country.

He spoke during the burial of Mzee Ombogo Ondieki in Masige West Ward, Bobasi Sub-County.

The deceased was the father of teacher Jeremiah Ombogo, a member of the Masige West Ward Education Bursary Committee.

Eulogising his father, Jeremiah described him as a man who instilled the values of transparent leadership, honesty and accountability in him from an early age.

He urged his siblings to uphold their father's legacy by showing tolerance and compassion towards others.

Bagaka described the late Ombogo as a man who devoted his life to supporting education, both for his children and the wider community.

He said the deceased's commitment to education would remain an inspiration to many.
County education initiatives

Bagaka said the county government, under Governor Simba Arati, had prioritised Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE), classroom construction, the equipping of vocational training centres and the timely disbursement of bursaries.

He said the initiatives were aimed at improving access to education and preventing learners from dropping out of school because of financial difficulties.

The MCA also praised Governor Arati for introducing free milk for nursery school learners and pupils in Grades One and Two, saying the programme had contributed to increased enrolment in primary schools across the county.

Bagaka noted that the initiative had not only improved nutrition among children from disadvantaged households but also created employment opportunities for boda boda operators involved in milk distribution.

He urged parents and guardians to ensure that all school-going children return to school when learning resumes.

The MCA further encouraged young people to take advantage of vocational training centres to acquire technical and practical skills that could improve their employment and self-employment opportunities.

The late Mzee Ombogo Ondieki was laid to rest at his home in Masige West Ward, Bobasi Sub-County.

He is survived by several children and grandchildren.
