Over 100,000 teachers are set to receive the last part of their phased pay salary increment.
According to the Teachers Service Commission, the pay is set to be done at the end of July this year.
“As we await the government directive on the reopening of schools, the commission wishes to thank all teachers for the support they been according us. We value this partnership which has enabled us to continue serving you even under the current circumstances. Further, we value your efforts in engaging learners with online lessons. Thank you and continue reaching out” said the statement by the commission.
Last month, TSC ordered the recount of head teachers, their deputies and senior teachers after a revelation that some teachers were promoted by mistake following the wrong information that was conveyed by the county directors.
Speaking to the journalists, TSC CEO Ms. Nancy Macharia said that classroom teachers were converted to grades exclusively reserved for institutional administrators, teachers serving as deputy or senior teachers were mistakenly captured as head teachers.
“This has negatively impacted the commission in terms of payroll management and the process of appointment and deployment of new institution administrators,” said Ms. Macharia.
TSC has set aside Sh. 7 billion to aid in promotion of about 100,000 teachers from grade B5 (previously P1) to C1 starting this month.
Grade B5 teachers presently earning between Sh. 21,765 and Sh. 27,195 will now earn Sh. 27,195 and Sh.33,994.
