Police in Kapenguria, West Pokot county have launched a manhunt for a man suspected of poisoning food at Chepkoti Primary School and stealing Ksh6,400, salt and a bag of beans.
The school’s head teacher said they found the food store disorganized and that he noticed the cooking oil had turned from yellow to a greyish colour.
He also stated that powder like particles, believed to be anti-rodent poison, were found on the surface of the oil.
West Pokot sub-county police commandant Kipkemoi Kirui said there was no forced entry into the store hence raising suspicions that it was an inside job.
“We suspect that the man, in the company of others, entered the head teacher’s office and a food store adjacent to the office on Thursday night and committed the grievous crime,”he said, further adding that the head teacher alleges that he securely locked the office and found it intact later.
Kirui called on parents to remain calm as investigations commence.
Food samples were taken to the government laboratory for tests. No learner or staff member consumed any of the food.
