A helicopter reportedly carrying Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) Chief Executive Officer Dr David Njengere and a team of officials has landed at YawYaw Mixed Secondary School in West Pokot County, as the 2026 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations continue across the country.
The landing drew the attention of residents, some of whom asked about the purpose of the visit.
The school reportedly has about 800 KCSE candidates sitting this year's national examinations.
There has been no official confirmation explaining why the KNEC chief executive and his delegation visited the school, and the exact reason for the visit remains unknown.(Education News Kenya — https://educationnews.co.ke/news/residents-curious-as-knec-chiefs-helicopter-lands-at-west-pokot-school)
Some observers have linked the visit to the council's routine examination duties.
During the KCSE examination period, KNEC officials carry out various responsibilities aimed at protecting the integrity of national examinations. These include monitoring examination administration, assessing compliance with established regulations and ensuring that candidates sit their papers under the required conditions.
