Parents warned against letting children loiter in streets during holiday

Kenyenya Sub-county Peace Committee Chairman, Samson Onyancha, has sent a stern warning to parents whose children will be found loitering in Kenyenya and other towns during this short April Holiday.

He said that drug abuse among school children has become rampant in the area and attributed it to parents who do not guard their children against the vice.

“Parents leave their children to wander with wrong groups that lure them into the use of drugs,” he said.

He blamed parents who drink excessive beer and use drugs which alter their proper ways of reasoning to cause chaos in their families.

He asked fathers who are the heads of families to establish family trends that will encourage peace.

“Without peaceful minds no home can develop, but instead, members will end up being victims of poverty,” he said.

He promised to use community policing groups to arrest parents who did not take their children to school.

“I have the permission to work with community policing groups and the church to identify parents who do not take their children to school and advise them accordingly,” he added.

The chairman who spoke at Kenyenya town thanked Boda-boda operators in the area for banning school boys from indulging in their riding business at the expense of their education.

He expressed his satisfaction in the coexistence between the youths of the neighboring Trans Mara East and Kenyanya Sub-counties whom he said have assisted his peace committee to stop cattle rustling in the area.

He asked the youths from both sides to organize matches and other related sports activities for socialization that will boost peace.
