The parents of Masongo Secondary School of Nyaribari Chache Constituency in Kisii County are counting losses after the school was robbed on Tuesday night.
According to the chief of Machongo location, unknown people broke into the school and stole property worth thousands of shillings.
“We were alerted this morning and when I went there with my officers, we could not believe our eyes as the thieves had left destruction,” said Mr. John Ogega, the area Chief.
He reported the matter to the police at Kiogoro Station who started investigating the case.
According to the police preliminary report, the school lost seven computers, several laptops that belonged to teachers and some students as well as school books.
The police said that the suspects ransacked every cupboard for seemingly looking for cash but only found school receipts, which they tore and scattered leaflets in the school compound.
A Kigoro police officers who identified himself as Nicolas Koros added that the suspects vandalized electricity, internet cables and school Wifi connections.
“It seems that it was a well-organized gang that knew exactly what they were looking for,” he said.
The officer was puzzled that there were no school watchmen although the school has two employed security guards.
Kisii County Director of Education Mr. Pius Ngoma confirmed the theft, saying that he had dispatched his field officers to the school to evaluate the damages.
He appealed to the police to carry out investigations diligently and bring the suspects to book.
