Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba has overseen the distribution of Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination materials in Nyamira County as candidates across the country embarked on their main written papers on Monday, November 2, 2026.
Ogamba witnessed the opening of the examination container and the distribution of examination materials at the Borabu Sub-County Deputy County Commissioner's Office before visiting St. Kizito Nyansiongo Boys Senior School to assess the administration of the examinations.

This year's KCSE examination has broken a historic record, with the number of candidates crossing the one-million mark for the first time, reaching 1,048,355.

The candidature represents a significant rise from 995,860 candidates recorded in 2025 and 965,172 in 2024, translating to a 5.27 per cent increase compared to last year.
Ogamba noted that the growing number of candidates reflects the expanding scale of the national examination and calls for heightened vigilance and collective responsibility among all stakeholders to guarantee a smooth exercise.

The main written examinations run from November 2 to November 20, following the earlier administration of practical and oral papers, which began on October 19.

The record-breaking candidature places additional responsibility on examination officials, security agencies, school administrators and other stakeholders to maintain the integrity of the national assessment and ensure every candidate sits the papers under fair and secure conditions
