The water shortage at Nkaretta Secondary School in Narok County is expected to ease after the school received a water bowser purchased through contributions from its stakeholders and the government.
The bowser is meant to address a persistent shortage that has affected learning at the institution.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, Narok County Commissioner Kipkech Lotiatia said students had endured significant hardship for a long time due to the lack of a reliable water supply. He said the government had been working closely with Central Rift Water Works to address the school's water challenges, and commended the stakeholders for joining hands with the government to provide a lasting solution.

"Students deserve a conducive learning environment," he said.

Water from three boreholes drilled within the school compound had remained unused after tests revealed the presence of sulphur, iron and fluoride, making it unsuitable for consumption. As a result, students had been forced to travel long distances in search of water.
Parents expressed joy and appreciation after the handover and wished the school's candidates success in their ongoing examinations.

Students also welcomed the development, saying the availability of water would let them sit their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations without worrying about where to get water.

Water scarcity remains a major challenge in various parts of Narok County, with stakeholders calling for sustainable, long-term solutions to ease the suffering of affected communities.
