Khabukoshe Mixed Senior School Principal Soita Murati has urged parents to keep their children engaged in academic assignments and constructive activities during the long holiday.

Speaking during the school's closing ceremony, Murati encouraged parents to ensure learners continue with their academic work after completing household chores.

He said parents should help their children develop a sense of responsibility and discipline to prepare them for the reopening of schools in 2027.

"Help them be responsible so that when they come back next year, 2027, they should be in good shape. We don't want them to get involved in issues related to pregnancies," he said.

The principal emphasised that as families celebrate the festive season, they must prioritise the safety and well-being of learners until schools reopen.

Principal warns against risky activities

Murati cautioned girls against attending overnight funeral entertainment events, commonly known as disco matanga, and accessing pornographic materials on the internet, warning that such activities could expose them to harmful influences.

"During this time of long holidays, we don't want them to fall prey to people who have ill motives of destroying our girls," he warned.

He urged parents to closely monitor their children's activities and provide guidance to protect them from exploitation and other risks during the holiday.

Parents, local administration urged to enhance protection

Murati said teenage pregnancies had reduced significantly in the community following sustained guidance and counselling efforts.

He encouraged girls to avoid risky situations and urged parents to ensure their children remain in safe environments throughout the holiday.

The principal also called on the local administration to strengthen security measures and support efforts to prevent teenage pregnancies, which he said remain a concern in the community.

He emphasised the importance of continued parental supervision, guidance and counselling to ensure learners return to school safely and ready to resume their studies in 2027.
