Headteachers of comprehensive schools across Kenya are set to converge in Mombasa in November for a national conference focused on strengthening school leadership, improving education systems and preparing institutions for the future.
The Kenya Comprehensive Schools Heads Association (KECSHA) will hold its 2026 Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Conference from November 9 to 13 at the Sheikh Zayed Children Welfare Centre. In an invitation to members, National Chairman Fuad Ali Abdalla called on comprehensive school heads to take part in the five-day gathering, which will provide a platform to share experiences, discuss challenges and explore innovative approaches to improving the quality of education.
The conference will be held under the theme "Re-imagining the Comprehensive School of the Future: Strengthening Leadership, Systems, Skills and Values for Sustainable Quality Education."

It is expected to bring together education stakeholders from across the country, including representatives from the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), the Ministry of Education, the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD), the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC), the Kenya Education Management Institute (KEMI), teachers' unions and education partners.

Their participation will allow school leaders to engage with institutions responsible for education policy, curriculum development, examinations and teacher management.
The conference comes as Kenya continues to implement reforms aimed at reshaping basic education, including the transition to comprehensive schools and the implementation of the Competency-Based Education (CBE) curriculum. School heads are central to these changes, with responsibilities that extend beyond routine administration to include managing curriculum implementation, supporting teachers, overseeing school resources and creating learning environments that respond to learners' needs.
KECSHA's focus on leadership, systems, skills and values reflects the need for school managers to adapt to changing educational demands while maintaining standards. The association's transition from the Kenya Primary School Heads Association (KEPSHA) to KECSHA was announced in November 2025 to align its mandate with education reforms and the evolving structure of basic education, including the integration of junior schools into primary institutions.

During the 2025 national conference in Mombasa, the association highlighted the importance of strengthening school leadership as Kenya prepared for the next phase of reforms, including the rollout of senior school.

The 2026 gathering is expected to build on those discussions by giving school heads an opportunity to exchange practical solutions and engage education stakeholders on the future of their institutions.

Beyond the formal discussions, the AGM will also offer members an opportunity to deliberate on issues affecting the association and share experiences from their respective schools.
