The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Kisii South branch has a new Executive Secretary after a peaceful election held recently.
Mr. Jared Mariera Nyaboga emerged top after garnering 259 votes to beat Mr.George Onchari who got 151 votes.
Prior to his election, Mr. Mariera was the branch’s Treasurer.
The branch’s top seat went vacant after Mr. Victor Omwando relinquished it to vie for Riana Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA) seat in the 9th August 2022 general elections.

Everly Mogaka wrestled it out with Hellen Nyanchama for the Vice Chairperson’s seat where she emerged the victor after garnering 240 votes as the latter picked 159 votes.
In addition, Joel Nyambeka who has been the Assistant Executive Secretary was elected branch Treasurer.
In his maiden speech, Mr. Mariera, noted that the branch was carved out from Kisii Central to take services closer to the parents, teachers and pupils.
He said that his first branch priority will be massive recruitment of new teachers to the Union.
“Our strength will be in our unity and numbers. Boosting that will be my priority as I start to serve you,” the new boss said.
He asked teachers to remain steadfast in serving the pupils because their profession was a calling.
Mr. Mariera promised to work with KNUT members from other branches to maintain harmonious relationship for prosperity of the union.
