The Cabinet Secretary for Education, Ezekiel Machogu, has revealed that the government is planning to release Sh. 4 billion for the first phase of Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) capitation fund and another Sh. 18 billion for senior secondary school level, totaling, Sh. 22 billion. He said this as he reiterated government’s commitment to provide quality education and ensure sufficient support for Competency Based Curriculum (CBC).
Addressing Parents, teachers and pupils of Itibo Primary School in Kitutu Chache North Constituency, Machogu, cited the provision of free books, affordable education in day schools and construction of CBC classrooms for JSS learners as some of the positive indicators towards the support of education.
“In the Senior Secondary Schools, we have spent shillings 18 Billion in capitation while the Juniour Secondary Schools will get Sh. 4 billion to make a total of 22 Billions,” he said.
Each student in Senior Secondary School has been receiving government capitation of Sh. 22,400 while JSS students are set to receive Sh. 15,000 each.
The CS asked individual schools to think of other ways of starting income generating projects in the institutions to enable them get extra money for their sustainability.
“You should not depend on the government support alone while you can use some available land in your institutions to grow crops like tea to support your programmes,” he said.
The CS who was accompanied by Kitutu Chache North MP Anthoney Kibagendi, told the residents to remain peaceful and concentrate on their daily work to support their children in school because peace is the base of any development.
Answering questions from the curious crowd about President Ruto’s visit to the region on Thursday, he approved positively. He said that President Ruto will tour the region to grace Machogu’s Home coming Ceremony at his Getacho home in Nyaribari Masaba Constituency.
He hinted that the president will launch Gekano-Amabuko road and Kegati Water project.
Other areas the president is likely to tour according to the CS Machogu include Nyamira County and Kuria East Constituency in Migori County.
The CS appealed to the residents in the region to turn up in big numbers to welcome and receive President William and his entourage
