KNUT first Vice-Chairperson Stanley Mutai died while undergoing treatment at Nairobi Hospital.

The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) is mourning the death of First National Vice-Chairman Stanley Mutai who succumbed to cancer at Nairobi Hospital.

Mutai was diagnosed with the terminal disease in June this year after being admitted at a Kericho hospital severally over recurring stomach pains.

KNUT Secretary General Collins Oyuu confirmed the incident and said that Mutai passed while undergoing treatment at the hospital where he had been hospitalized for the past two months.

At the time of his death, Mutai was also serving as the union Kericho Branch Executive Secretary where he was elected in 2021.

His death comes barely two months after the death of the union’s Second Vice-Chairman John Wesonga who also passed away at Nairobi Hospital after a long illness.

Wesonga, who also served as provincial secretary of the then Western Provincial Council before becoming a National Executive Council (NEC) member, died after a long battle with colon cancer.
