Kisii University has shut down some of its satellite campuses and merged others that were not viable.
Education Cabinet Secretary Prof George Magoha has praised the move by the institution.

Prof Magoha directed the Commission for University Education to investigate the PhDs being awarded to students some of which he claimed were obtained through fraud.
Vice-chancellors committee chairman Prof Francis Aduol narrated how he interviewed two ill-trained PhD graduates who had good resumes but had no knowledge on what to do. The two were to be hired as lecturers.
