A section of Kisii Members of County Assembly (MCAs) have blamed Governor Simba Arati for the delay in the release of the county education bursary funds.
Led by Masimba ward MCA Boaz Mairurura, they asked Arati to make public the reasons behind the disbursement delay.
“I will keep on pressing on until the governor tells us exactly why all 45 wards have not received the funds,” he said.
Mairurua noted that Arati had promised to provide Ksh3 million to cater for education but the monies are yet to reach the wards.
He said that most MCAs had called for needy students who had already filled application forms and some had already despaired while waiting for the funds and opted to join the Bodaboda business.
The MCA appealed to principals to allow such students to stay in school until the issue was solved and money released.
“I appeal to our school principals to identify such cases in their schools and allow them to stay in school for some time because they have nowhere to run to,” he said.
He regretted that children from poor homes stayed at home due to lack of school fees when there are able people in the neighbourhood to assist.
Mairurua appealed to the NG-CDF committee and county government to harmonize their operations in the issuance of bursary funds in order to avoid duplication of beneficiaries.
