Emurua Dikirr Member of Parliament David Keter has pledged to increase the constituency's bursary allocation from Sh46 million to Sh70 million to strengthen access to education.
Keter announced on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, when he hosted teachers from across the constituency at his Chelemei Ranch. The gathering brought together teachers from Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE), comprehensive schools and senior schools, as well as lecturers and retired educationists, in an initiative aimed at uniting the teaching fraternity and advancing the constituency's education agenda.
Keter pledged to raise the constituency's bursary allocation from Sh46 million to Sh70 million, saying the move would expand educational opportunities for learners from financially disadvantaged backgrounds.
He also proposed extending bursary support to teachers with children in school, observing that unemployed teachers were among those facing financial difficulties in meeting their children's educational needs. The MP argued that teachers, like other members of the community, deserved consideration under education support programmes when experiencing economic hardship.(Education News Kenya — https://educationnews.co.ke/news/emurua-dikirr-mp-david-keter-pledges-to-raise-bursary-from-sh46-million-to-sh70-million)
Keter challenged school administrators to improve academic performance and ensure that every learner benefited from meaningful educational value addition. He warned that school leadership would be expected to demonstrate tangible improvements in learner outcomes.
The MP emphasised the need for accountability, effective management and close supervision of teaching and learning activities. He also urged school heads to exercise close oversight of projects funded through the Constituencies Development Fund (CDF), cautioning that shoddy workmanship would not be tolerated.
The legislator further pledged his support for an overhaul of teacher career progression guidelines, advocating for fair promotions and transfers. His position comes amid continuing discussions in the education sector about teachers' career advancement, equitable deployment and transparent human resource management.
Speaking during the function, Chief Principal Richard Sang, formerly of Litein High School, challenged teachers to set high standards of performance and embrace mentorship as a central part of their professional responsibility. He said educators should go beyond classroom instruction and actively guide learners in their academic, personal and social development, and called on teachers to show commitment, professionalism and dedication in preparing learners for future responsibilities.
The event was also attended by members of the Narok County Assembly as well as officials of the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) and the Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET).
The gathering provided a platform for teachers from different institutions to interact with the legislator and discuss school performance, teachers' welfare, infrastructure development and access to education in the constituency.
