John Osogo Boys, Chakol Girls crowned new Busia football champions

EDUCATION PRESIDENTIAL AWARD

John Osogo Boys High School from Budalang’i are the new Busia County Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association Games football champions.

They achieved the feat after beating Madende from Nambale sub-county 1-0 in the final match at Nambale Boys on Saturday, which was graced by Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba.

The lone goal of the match was scored by Reakey Sande in the 22nd minute earning them a ticket to the Regional Level to be held at Kakamega National School later this month. Madende has also booked a ticket for the regional bonanza.

In the ladies’ category, St. Joseph’s Chakol was crowned county queens after trouncing Katakwa 4-0 with a brace from Naome Akuleut in the 48th and 55th minute while Kaurechi and Rabecca Odunga accounting for a goal each in the 62nd and 78th  minutes respectively.

In Volleyball, Bumala Girls emerged champions after beating St. Peter’s Busibi 3-0 (25-19, 25-15, 25-19) in the final. In the boys’ category, Sigalame were crowned champions after beating Butula Boys in straight sets.

The Netball title went to defending regional champions Bumala AC who beat St. Joseph’s Chakol 79-10 in the final.

In Rugby 7s, Kolanya Boys emerged champions after beating St. Mary’s Mundika 21-0 in the final.

Kolanya had beaten Nambale Boys 14-0 in the semi-finals with Mundika beating Butula Boys 14-5 in the other semis. Butula beat Nambale 5-0 in the playoff encounter for third and fourth positions.

Kolanya Boys, Mundika, Butula and Nambale qualified for regional games in that order. Other disciplines will send two teams each.
