Khadija Secondary upsets football defending champions Serani in Mombasa County games

Khadija Secondary School caused a significant upset in football in the Term Two Games for Mombasa County yesterday, beating Serani Secondary.

Serani Secondary were the reigning champions until then, but were resoundingly thrashed 3-0 by the new champions at St Charles Lwanga Changamwe grounds.

Shem Lumumba, the coach of Khadija Secondary School, expressed their determination to get the title they narrowly missed last year.

“We prepared our team early enough this time round, and we had a good plan for Serani, and all our other opponents,” said Lumumba.

Serani’s coach, Alex Shikanga, expressed disappointment that his players did not approach their final pool match with the seriousness it deserved, especially since they had already secured a spot in the semi-finals.

“We gave opportunities to our other players, having already booked our place in the last four. We promise our fans that we shall do everything to retain the title,” said Shikanga.

Bomu Secondary, the defending champions in girls football, also faced a setback, losing 2-0 to Mwakirunge Secondary.

Bomu’s team manager, Varlen Awuor, emphasized that despite their defeat against Mwakirunge, it will not deter them from focussing on their tournament objectives.
