Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Busia Branch Chairman Hillary Musundi said the one-day special soccer bonanza sponsored by FIFA in collaboration with FKF attracted 450 girls with each coach presenting 15 girls for the special competition with CAF instructors Fred Serenge and Vince Ombiji seconded to identify potential talents.

Musundi thanked FIFA and FKF President Nick Mwendwa for offering the training to primary school teachers and community coaches, noting that it will ensure young players are in safe hands.

“As a federation, we shall ask for more of such opportunities which will impact positively in our leagues, and it will instil discipline in our players as they endeavour to pursue greener pastures,” he said.

Musundi said trained coaches will secure scholarships for players’ development, adding that the move has seen crowds attending matches reduce hostilities in support of associated football, and parents are equally supportive.

Among those who attended the one-day soccer bonanza included FKF Deputy President Doris Petra, NEC Western Bishop Tony Kweya, NEC Women Rep, Margaret Omondi,  Bunyore Starlets’ Moses Mabwa, Leagues and Competitions officer, Dorine Nabwire, and CAF instructors Fred Serenge and Vince Obinji.
