An international organization is collecting funds to assist young girls in Kisii and Nyamira counties to deal with teen pregnancies and early marriage practices.
International Solidarity Foundation (ISF) is working on this project together with Muungano Gender Forum, a local NGO.
Joel Machuka, an officer with Muungano Gender Forum, said teen pregnancies and early marriage of young girls was rampant in Nyamira County.
Gusii Governance Watch Secretary, Rachel Otundo, blamed the community of not protecting the girl child and holding on to outdated customs and practices.
“While parents have abdicated from their responsibilities, the church is making matters worse by keeping silent,” said Otundo.
