A family from Kiomosobo village has appealed to the police to arrest a man who abducted their daughter from school and married her.
According to the Aunt Eva Barongo, the man eloped with her niece Dinner Moraa Omae late last year after the death of both her parents while in Standard 7 at St. Nyosia Primary School.
“The man took her with him to Mosocho in Marani sub-county claiming to be a relative and promised to take care of her only to make her his wife against her will,” she said.
She said that a family member received information that the man had started to mistreat Moraa and went there but did not find her at the home.
“The man gave two contradictory statements. One, that he sent her to the shop one evening but she never returned and two, that our daughter stole his money and he sent her away,” she said.
It was after that disappointment that they feared for the girl and started to look for her.
“We have recorded a statement with the police but no recovery efforts have been made,” she said.
Barongo appealed to the police to arrest the suspect and arraign him over child abuse.
However, Kisii County Police boss Charles Kesses said his officers had begun investigations on the matter and appealed to anybody with information regarding the matter to volunteer to the police so as to assist in the probe.
The officer warned men against marrying school girls at the expense of their education because it is a violation of their rights.
The incident comes three months after baby Sagini Junior was waylaid at a river, his eyes gouged out and left dumped at a farm.
The suspected attackers who are believed to be his close relatives were arrested and arraigned in Court.
