Police in Nyamira County are ascertaining how a 15-year old primary school boy got a swelling on his scrotum, leading to a surgery and subsequent removal of a testicle.

Reports indicate that the Class Eight pupil was beaten by a teacher at Bitundugusu Primary School in Kitutu Masaba Constituency.

According to the medical staff at Bosongo  Hospital, the boy was brought in with swollen private parts which meant that he had to be admitted to the health facility to receive further treatment and upon examination it was found that one of his testicles was irreparably damaged.

The medics termed it as `testicular torsion`.

“He was brought to us in a critical condition. We performed an emergency operation on him last Friday. He is still recovering but too weak to even walk,” a nurse said.

The surgeons at Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital (KTRH) where the boy  was first admitted after the medics at Getare Dispensary failed to contain the boy’s  pain earlier, had to refer him to Bosongo Hospital, a private facility in Kisii County, for operation and care.

Nyamira County Police Commander Mr James Mitugo said they are aware of the case and his team was investigating the incident.

The mother of the victim said the son admitted he was whipped two days before the surgery when he fell down by his class door. Upon going to the institution, she was chased away.

“He told me that his teachers had beaten him up after he and another pupil had an argument in school,” the mother said.

“After I spoke to him, he told me that the headmaster and another teacher had beaten him up badly and that he had a lot of pain in his genitals. He couldn’t walk nor sit up properly. Later, I went to the school to make inquiries on what happened to my son, but I was chased away,” the mother said while crying.

She has appealed to the Education Cabinet Secretary, Ezekiel Machogu, to personally intervene in the matter and bring to book those responsible for her son`s situation
