MoE to decide fate of Kisumu County boys’ football final this week

Katolo Boys celebrate scoring against Kisumu Boys.

The sitting to decide the fate of the Kisumu County Secondary School boys’ football final is expected to be conducted at the Regional Director of Education (RDE) office today.

This follows a meeting convened by the stakeholders from the Education Ministry, Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and officials from Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) on Wednesday at the County Director of Education (CDE) office in Kisumu where they agreed the appeals made by the two teams will be heard.

They agreed that the four teams must present the Unique Personal Identifier (UPI) numbers, spread sheets, group photos of the teams, birth certificates of the players and other relevant documents at the meeting.

Among the decision to be made is that if the complaints filed by the two teams are found to be null and void, the finals which saw no winner recognised between Katolo and Agai will be played this Saturday.

The move comes just a few days after Kisumu County Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) Secretary George Osura revealed that the two appeals made by two schools will be decided this week.

Osura said Kisumu Day appealed against Katolo while Kisumu Boys appealed against Agai secondary.

Kisumu Day lost 1-2 against Katolo while Kisumu Boys lost 0-1 to Agai in their respective semis at Maseno School.

In their appeals, Kisumu Day and Kisumu Boys claimed Agai and Katolo fielded ineligible players.

Katolo and Agai played in the final but the game did not end due to poor lighting. By the time of postponement, the teams were tied at 1-1.

“The county’s director of education will convene a meeting to hear the appeals and decide on the final. We still have time to organise the final,” said Osura.
