Chelule: Schools, not BBI is the top priority

By John Njoroge

Nakuru Woman Rep Liza Chelule has urged the government to utilise funds allocated to the the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) on schools.

She said most schools have poor infrastructure and parents are struggling to pay fees.

“The Sh2 billion which the government wants to spend in verification of BBI signatures should be disbursed to schools which are in a poor condition,” Chelule said when she addressed residents of Mukinyai in Molo.

She observed that many parents had lost their source of income because of the Covid-19 crisis and were unable to pay school fees or afford other school requirements for their children.

“The verification of signatures is important but the government must get its priorities right,” said Chelule.
