Litein Boys High School takes KCSE candidates on 50km trek to build unity and resilience

Litein Boys High School in Kericho County took its Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) candidates on a 50-kilometre nature trek on Thursday, October 22, 2026, in an initiative aimed at promoting teamwork, physical endurance and closer relationships between learners and teachers.
The excursion, dubbed the KCSE Great Trek 2026, brought together candidates, teachers and non-teaching staff on a journey that combined adventure, environmental exploration and cultural learning ahead of the national examinations. The school's principal also joined the learners.

According to the route schedule shared by the school, the trek began at 9.20 am, with participants passing through Kusumek, Kiptui, Kipraisi and Kinyakoro before proceeding to Cheptabach and Iria Maina. The return route included Chemelet, Kapy Angek, Morit, Upper Hill Academy and Koiwa Road before the group headed back to the school.

At the Iria Maina Waterfall and Ecotourism Site, the students explored waterfalls and caves, took part in swimming activities and viewed traditional artefacts, giving them a chance to appreciate the region's natural attractions and cultural heritage.

The initiative also gave the candidates a break from intensive classroom preparation, allowing them to interact with their peers and teachers in a relaxed setting as they prepare for their examinations.

After the trek, participants gathered at the school for a goat-eating celebration to mark their achievement.
The school said the event underscored the importance of co-curricular activities in nurturing discipline, perseverance, cooperation and social skills beyond academic work. Litein Boys High School, popularly known as the Power House, promotes discipline, excellence, service and faith as part of its identity, and the trek reflected its emphasis on togetherness and holistic learning.
