The Board of Management of Baringo Teachers Training College (TTC) has rejected the transfer of Chief Principal Richard Sang, who was recently moved from Litein Boys High School in Kericho County.
The decision, announced during a handing‑over meeting at Talai High School, the new home of Baringo TTC was based on concerns over Sang’s leadership record and public image. The meeting was attended by Baringo TSC Director Mirriam Kosgei, the Baringo Central Sub‑County TSC Director, education officials, the Sub‑County Quality Assurance Officer, and the Sub‑County Auditor.
Sang’s transfer followed unrest at Litein Boys earlier this year, when students staged a violent strike that caused destruction worth millions of shillings. His appointment to Baringo TTC was further questioned due to his history at Longisa Boys High School in Bomet County, where students went on multiple strikes in 2013.

Board members accused Sang of high‑handed leadership, citing instances where he undertook infrastructure projects without board approval. They also questioned his promotion to Job Group R despite controversies at both Longisa and Litein.
“We will not allow our institution to be used as a dumping place for ‘failures’,” said one board member.
Institution chairman Eddy Koimett halted the handing‑over ceremony, saying the board had not consulted stakeholders on the appointment of a new principal. He expressed confidence in acting chief principal Samuel Bitok, stressing the need for stability and accountability in leadership following the college’s relocation.
Koimett added that the board was not in a hurry to appoint a permanent principal, insisting that only a leader with a proven track record should oversee the institution.

Baringo TTC was recently relocated to Talai High School after its original premises were repurposed into Kabarnet University. To accommodate the transition, Talai High School students were temporarily moved to other institutions.
Baringo County Director of Education Dr. Kipruto Kosgey responded to the standoff, noting that the matter falls under the mandate of the Teachers Service Commission (TSC). He assured that the commission has established procedures for handling transfers and appointments, and emphasized that the concerns raised by the board would be addressed through the proper administrative channels.
Attempts to reach Baringo TSC Director Mirriam Kosgei for comment were unsuccessful as she hung up the phone during a conversation with Education News, while calls to Koimett also went unanswered.
