Trans Nzoia County has pledged to continue supporting sports and talent development among Junior Secondary School (JSS) teachers, with officials saying sporting activities strengthen teamwork, physical wellness and professional relationships in the education sector.
County Chief Officer for Sports and Youth Talent Development Hosea Chemchem said the county government would back teachers' sporting initiatives as part of efforts to identify and nurture talent beyond the classroom.
Chemchem spoke on Sunday during the commissioning of the JSS Teachers' Tournament at Kwanza Girls.

"The tournament demonstrates the remarkable spirit of sportsmanship, unity, teamwork and camaraderie within our teaching fraternity," he said.

He said sports allow teachers to build unity, improve their physical well-being and strengthen professional cohesion.
Chemchem said the county, through the Directorate of Sports, was committed to supporting teachers' participation in football and other sporting disciplines.
He said the initiative is consistent with the county's talent-development agenda, which seeks to identify, nurture and develop abilities that could create economic opportunities, employment and better livelihoods.
"Together, let us identify talent, invest in potential and transform ability into opportunity. The future of Trans Nzoia lies in the talents we nurture today," he said.
County Executive Committee Member for Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries Phanice Khatundi urged teachers to work with the county government in pursuing its development priorities.
She said teamwork and cooperation were essential in advancing community development, adding that talent promotion and stronger social ties could contribute to better livelihoods in the county.

"By working together and supporting the Governor's vision, we can promote talent, strengthen unity and improve the livelihoods of the people of Trans Nzoia," she said.

The event was attended by Rift Valley Regional JSS Chairperson Francis Wanyoike and other guests.
