By Agnes Orang’o

Two children have died in a house fire that occurred this morning at Mutalia, Matungulu sub county of Machakos county.

The incident happened at 5:30 in the morning after a Koroboi lamp blew up spreading fire in the mabati house while the two children aged 4 years and 20 months were sleeping.

The mother had left it on when she took her other two children to school.

A neighbor narrated that the woman and her family had been given the house to live in while they kept watch on a neighboring building under construction.

“The two boys go to a distant school and she always takes them before coming back to take the other girl who is in kindergarten. Today was unfortunate as she came back to find the house engulfed in fire,” said the neighbor.

He warned the locals to be careful when dealing with sources of heat that can create tragic situations.
