KNUT Gucha branch mourns death of Union boss, Wesonga

Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Gucha branch is mourning the passing on of the Union’s second National Vice Chairman John Wesonga Lutta, whom they termed as a man who served with a lot of determination.

Speaking at Ogembo town shortly after receiving the news, the branch Executive Secretary Lucy Machogu sent condolences to the bereaved family.

“I learnt about the demise of our colleague with a lot of disbelief. We join the country in mourning this great man in the teaching fraternity,” she said.

According to KNUT Secretary General Collins Oyuu, the late Wesonga passed on at Nairobi West Hospital on Thursday where he was under treatment for colon cancer.

“According to the hospital report, our colleague breathed after bravely wrestling colon cancer for a long time,” he said.

He eulogized Wesonga as a gallant unionist who was Butere Mumias branch’s Executive Secretary before he was elevated to national level.

Other leaders who sent their condolences include former Gucha branch KNUT Executive Secretary Sam Nyairo and long serving branch Chairman Stephen Otundo.

Saying that Wesonga was a man who loved his colleagues and students, Otundo appealed to other leaders to follow his steps of honesty, steadfastness and bravery as the Union prepares to give him a decent sendoff.
