Acting Teachers Service Commission (TSC) Chief Executive Officer Dr Eveleen Mitei has credited the government of President William Ruto and Parliament for providing resources that have enabled the Commission to strengthen teacher recruitment and promotion programmes.

Speaking during the World Teachers' Day celebrations at Kasarani Gymnasium on Monday, October 5, 2026, Mitei thanked the government for allocating resources to the Commission to support its mandate of serving teachers across the country.

She specifically recognised the role of the National Assembly's Parliamentary Education Committee, chaired by Julius Melly, in supporting increased funding for the Commission.

According to Mitei, the additional resources have enabled TSC to create opportunities for the recruitment of more teachers while also expanding promotion opportunities for serving teachers facing career stagnation.

Her remarks came as teachers gathered to mark World Teachers' Day, with career progression, teacher welfare, recruitment and adequate staffing remaining among the major issues shaping the profession.
Mitei said the Commission's ability to recruit and promote teachers depends significantly on the availability of government funding. This makes parliamentary support an important component in addressing staffing and career progression challenges.

This recognition of Parliament comes at a time when thousands of teachers are expected to benefit from the latest promotion drive, following an increase in the annual allocation for teacher promotions.

Teachers, education officials, unions and government leaders gathered at Kasarani to reflect on the contribution of teachers to Kenya's education system and the challenges facing the profession.

Mitei's message placed resources at the centre of the country's efforts to improve teacher management. She argued that sustained investment is necessary if TSC is to meet the needs of an expanding education system while giving serving teachers opportunities to advance their careers.

The World Teachers' Day celebrations therefore offered an opportunity not only to honour teachers, but also to highlight the financial and institutional support required to recruit, retain, motivate and promote the workforce responsible for delivering education across Kenya.
