Webuye West Member of Parliament Dan Wanyama has urged learners to embrace the responsible use of social media, saying digital platforms should be tools for academic growth rather than distractions.

Speaking on Monday during the unveiling of a new tuition storey block at Webuye S.A Primary School, Wanyama challenged students to leverage technology positively to enhance their education.

“Social media can either build your future or destroy it. Use it to research, learn new skills and connect with opportunities that will help you succeed,” he said.

The MP cautioned learners against cyberbullying, misinformation and excessive online engagement, noting that indiscipline on digital platforms could undermine academic performance. He emphasised the need for focus and hard work, urging students to prioritise their studies.

The newly unveiled tuition block is expected to ease congestion and improve the learning environment at the institution, which has steadily grown in enrolment and academic performance. School administrators said the additional classrooms will enhance effective teaching and learning.

Wanyama reiterated his commitment to improving education infrastructure across Webuye West Constituency, describing investment in schools as key to community development.

“Education remains the foundation of progress. By improving infrastructure, we are creating an environment where learners can thrive and compete nationally,” he said.

The event was attended by several school heads from the constituency, led by Hillary Kachibo, headteacher of Webuye S.A Comprehensive School.
